Dr. E. Hennie Valkenier-van Dijk obtained her PhD in Chemistry from the University of Groningen in 2011, focusing on molecular electronics. Following postdoctoral research at the University of Bristol on chloride transmembrane transporters, she held research positions in Brussels, working on both nanoparticle functionalization and ion transport. Since 2018, she has been a Research Associate of the FRS-FNRS at the Université libre de Bruxelles, where she also received an ERC Starting Grant to develop novel anion transporters. Since 2025, she has served as an investigator at the WEL Research Institute. Her research focuses on the design of ionophores for anion and cation transport, the development of methodologies for studying ion transport in liposomes, and the exploration of their biological applications.
